Audience sharing a good idea?
I've been an IH lurker since early on. Diving into the forums now. Looking for some feedback
A theme I've been seeing a lot is that the best way to build a successful product is to have an audience to show it off too and test it. A lot of people don't have an audience, and it takes time/effort to build.
What do people think of creating something, might be as simple as a slack group, where people share their audiences with new creators to help facilitate feedback, discussion, and product improvements.
Could it work?
Obvious issues are why would someone with and audience share it (what's in it for them?) & can you maintain a balance w/ your audience & stay authentic sharing other peoples products?
I believe there is a space for a "email list cross-sell" service. Creators post their product, the size of their e-mail list and their target audience. Find a match with another similar non-competitor creator on size and target dimensions. Both creators share each other product on their own e-mail list. Not disclosing their e-mail list, not even giving access to the e-mail tool.
It might be a free service, a for-profit marketplace charging matching fees, idk.
I was thinking along these lines.

There might be an insurmountable challenge here with logistics, but I guess it depends on what you mean by "share" an audience.
The most tangible representation of a maker's audience are digital subscriptions (e.g. Twitter followers, Facebook fans, newsletter subscribers, etc.), and these digital connections are either nontransferable or, in the case of email addresses, unethical to pass off to other creators.
So typically the best path forward, if you've got the right connections, is to get people with large platforms to promote your work. But that will only put your work on a stage — it won't get an audience to like what they see.
One thing I'd recommend is to set up a mailing list if you don't already have one. When you build something you think people will like, make sure it's got an email form on it somewhere so that people can give you permission to send them updates about that project or other projects in the future.
If you look at today's post about JV from lee - that's sorta what I had in mind, or at least a form of it.
