Show IH: One-stop tool for researching the best stuff
Hi all!
It's a safe bet that most of us have searched for the best [something] on Google, and the results are all over the place - from the "authoritative" websites out there like Wirecutter, big publications like Business Insider, to tons of small blogs of varying quality.
I've always wanted something that could distill all of the results for me... so I decided to try to build it :) I recently launched Best Best List (https://bestbestlist.com/). The way it works is this:
For a given query - say you want to know what the best EZ Curl Bar is for your home gym - Best Best List crawls through as many "top X" sites it can find, and summarizes everyone else's recommendations for you. The resulting page looks like this:

The algorithm does its best to sort the results in the order of most recommended to least (not to say that ranking #10 makes a product bad... it's like the worst of the best).
I put the site out there with a few hundred pre-made "lists" and am hoping to get a little SEO traffic so I can monitor user behavior. If people find it useful, here's where I'm thinking this could go:
- The ability to put in any query you wanted... of course it takes a few minutes to build the top 10 page so I'd need to email you the result or something.
- Insert videos and resources to learn about a topic.
- Expanding beyond just products found on Amazon.
(For the sake of transparency, the Amazon links on the site are affiliate links which means I may get a little kickback if anyone purchases anything after clicking on them.)
I realize that part of what is useful about a site like Wirecutter is that they have a lot of written content about WHY the products they chose are the best. This is important especially for high dollar purchases like a new TV, but I just find that for some things I just want a quick answer, and decide for myself if further reading is warranted.
I'd love any and all feedback you might have, whether on the design, UX, bugs, the general concept, things that would make it more useful for you... etc. Thanks for taking the time!
As a quick bonus, let me know if there are any pages you want me to generate - it's pretty fun to see the results, I've been finding myself checking things I've recently bought to see if I indeed got the most highly recommended product :)
