Ask IH: Best practices, advice and experiences for growing a newsletter

About 4 weeks ago, I launched an email curation that features the best new web technologies every week: https://www.getrevue.co/profile/the-session

It targets frontend designers, developers, product managers and others interested in the web. About 70 subscribers have signed up so far through different communities and Twitter and early feedback from those has been very positive. Hence I’m convinced that this is offering value to my subscribers and I believe the value proposition is clear. It’s a great way to catch and explore good libraries as they fly by on Show HN, as a fellow IH described it.

My most important goal and challenge now is acquiring subscribers continuously and growing the newsletter. I do realize there’s probably no secret silver bullet here, but I’m sure there are several tactics I haven’t though of and it’s probably interesting for many others too. Would be great if you could share your ideas and experiences. I will share my own ideas below.

Hopefully this will become an interesting thread on the topic.

Thanks in advance!
Emil

    Things I've tried:

    • Sharing to Slack groups (this worked well)
    • Sharing the newsletter on Twitter through my personal account (also brought a few subscribers)
    • Show IH
    • Reddit (unsuccessful so far; mostly got flagged as it's hart to promote the newsletter indirectly)

    Ideas:

    • Reaching out to tech influencers to share it to their audience (any experiences here?)
    • Adding the newsletter to databases and lists of newsletters and resources (reached out to only one author of such an article without success)
    • Show HN (hard to get to the top)
    • ProductHunt (launching in a few weeks)
