Show IH: Jetset Weather - Find the best weather and flights for your trips
Hi everybody! I just launched Jetset Weather. Another day, another weather app, right? Nope, this is toootally different 😄. With Jetset Weather you can view, explore and compare weather averages and flight prices.
This app has been built for anyone who wants to travel and would like to know the weather beforehand. My goal is to make weather data easily accessible for different use cases related to travel. Flight prices are shown along with the weather to make it easier to decide where and when to go.
Features
- 🔍 Search allows you to access the location you want to travel to and view the weather and flight prices over time.
- 🌎Use Explore to find out where you want to go to and filter on time frame, region and temperature.
- 📊 With Compare, you can compare the different locations in one screen and if necessary focus on a specific time frame.
On every page, you can click on the data to see weather details and available flights. If you want to book a flight, click on a flight and you will be redirected to the booking page.
A little bit of background
I have worked previously as a UX designer, I learned web programming in the last year. I started building this project as my first app, mostly as a learning project. I originally got the idea when I was planning a long term trip. I could not find a good tool to compare yearly weather for multiple locations, to easily decide where to go and in which order.
Project details
I designed this project using Figma and developed it using Angular. I have Firebase for cloud functions and storing basic data. Weather data has been gathered from noaa.gov, I use a separate SQL database with private API for that. Flight data comes from kiwi.com, where I also link to when you click on a flight. Unsplash.com for all the pictures. The app works on mobile and desktop in any 🙏 browser.
What is next
I first want to see how much interest there is in the available features and gather some feedback before I continue. Also I have to spend time on figuring out more monetization strategies. If you have any tips, please do let me know. Any other feedback is also appreciated. Thanks for reading!
Super cool idea! I can see people who must decide where to go could use this. I think building on discovery of travel destination would be another logic next time. For example account for trip budget, activity preference ( site seeing vs outdoor), way to travel (comparing bus/plane prices).
For monetization would probably make the most sense to do the affiliate model. Most of the airline and booking sites already give you access to link to the sites to book. While you focus on discovery.
Looks great as a learning project- hope it grows into something even bigger

Thanks for the reply! Great suggestions, budget + activity is indeed a good idea, as it helps with searching which place fits best for your trip. I wonder if I can easily get bus/train prices, will look into this soon!
Forgot to mention that I already have affiliate id with kiwi right now. But I feel like I need to try some more ways to monetize to have this project to be able to stand on its own feet.
