Landing Page Tips for a 'Build Your Own Boss' Product

Over a year ago a was asked to do a talk around the processes and systems I use to manage my business. It ended up being a talk about 'Building your own boss' showing how I do annual review, goal setting, monthly strategy, weekly scheduling and daily task management.

It's not really my topic - we do podcasting - but I'm a bit of a systems and management geek, so I enjoyed putting it together.

The feedback was phenomenal, though, and it made me think I needed to put together a course on it for our Podcast Host Academy members. The biggest issue we often have is people flaking out of podcasting because they're just not organised enough to keep it up...

Anyway, to the chase - I put it together and I've made it public. Because... well, what the hell. I put the effort in, might as well!

I think the target audience is very close to the IH group - entrepreneurs, creators, small companies - so I'd love your feedback on the landing page, to see if I've got the messaging right.

If you had a minute to tell me, the following, I'd appreciate it!

  1. Does it speak to a problem you have?
  2. Do I tell you enough about what's included?
  3. Do I tell you enough of the benefits, or the solution?
  4. Do you believe it might be worth the cost ($145)?

Cheers!

    Hey Colin,

    Looks quite solid.

    1. Yeah it's definitely interesting for IHs, Makers, etc. but I would think it's more relevant to Podcasters, Marketers (& SEO), Bloggers, Writers or towards a specific niche in those verticals simply because Indie Hackers tend to be more indie and rely less on courses. (there are tons of similar examples, such as Gary Vaynerchuck, Entrepreneurs on Fire, Neil Patel and other "GSD Gurus".)

    2. Not really, other than the video courses and a few spreadsheets, it's hard to understand what's included.

    3. Again, not really. Maybe some more images / examples or stats would be nice to visualize the benefits.

    4. Probably, but I don't think there's enough "meat" on the page to take a bite at $145. In other words, it'd be good to better know what to expect from it.

    5. Overall design of the page isn't that great, I think it can improve the results.

    6. How can I get in touch with you? I think I've tried reaching out a while back through your site but never heard back :-)

    1. Yes, it does. I like the questions you ask up front.
    2. Not really. The overview, though it says what’s in it, there are no details about what each part consists of.

Does the annual review have worksheets and a video explaining it or what?

    1. No, you don’t. You tell me that you get a lot done in your business and reference your products but no hard numbers. You doubled your traffic from what to what?

10 - 20 or 20-40? A bit more specificity would be helpful here.

The overview bullets are also sparse. They tell me what it is but not the benefit.

You get an annual review so?

It could be so that you can spot the patterns in your behavior, double down on what’s working, and understand problem areas so you can tackle them before the trip you up again.

That’s off the top of my head. I know you could do better.

    1. This isn’t a good question to ask but I’ll answer anyways. No. Looking at the course, it seems I’m paying $145 for 27 - 2 minute videos.

    That’s steep.

The soldier and general references rubbed me the wrong way as well (could just be me of course).

I didn’t watch the video either - my network is piss poor right now.

I actually think it’s a good start. The writing was concise and compelling. Once I started reading, I finished before I knew what was happening.

I found myself asking well I’d like to know how he doubled his traffic and what are the actual numbers there.

When I looked at the course outline, due to the length of the videos, I had doubts as to wether I’d get the claimed value out of it.

    Hope this helps.
