I usually work as a doctor in the UK, but I've taken a year out of my training to pursue my project Geeky Medics.
I started Geeky Medics 9 years ago, as a side project whilst I was a medical student (initially just a Wordpress blog where I shared my notes). I then began to produce "how-to" videos on how to examine patients and perform medical procedures in a medical school exam context.
We've been lucky enough to grow our audience organically over time, with us now receiving over 2 million views of our content every month from a global community. We have over 300,000 subscribers on our Youtube channel who have consumed over 100 million minutes of our videos. Our commitment to consistently producing high-quality resources over several years has allowed us to build a globally recognised and trusted brand in the medical community.
The latest development has been a launch of the Geeky Quiz platform, which provides a large bank of free community generated quiz questions. The idea was to empower our audience to be able to learn more effectively and share their own knowledge with other community members.
The business became too much to manage alongside my full-time job as a doctor, so I stepped down to part-time work 2 years ago. More recently I’ve taken the leap to pursue Geeky Medics full time whilst spending a year in Melbourne!
