25 profitable questions you must ask your users to improve your site, sales, and products

Your website (and products) should behave like a good friend.

But most websites act like selfish ego-maniacs.

Here are 25 (profitable) questions we've used over 1,000 times to improve your site, sales, and products:

Note: The following questions can be interchangeable. For example, some of the questions under "site" category can also help "sales."

To improve your site:

Ask the following questions on your site using live chat, Hotjar or a VWO survey.

  1. What did you think of this article?
  2. Were you able to complete the purpose of your visit today?
  3. What other subjects would you like us to write about?
  4. How would you complete this sentence: My biggest challenge with this subject is \\\\\\?
  5. Is our pricing clear?
  6. What's missing on this page?
  7. Is there any section on this page you found confusing? Anything we should remove?
  8. If you didn't subscribe to our newsletter, what stopped you?

To improve your sales:

Ask the following questions on your site (e.g. product or checkout page) or via an email survey to your leads and customers.

  1. If you didn't sign up today, what stopped you?
  2. Where did you first hear about us?
  3. What's the one thing that almost stopped you from buying?
  4. What information is missing or would make your decision to buy easier?
  5. What is your biggest fear or concern about buying?
  6. What other products/services would you like to see us offer?
  7. What stopped you from continuing after your free trial?

Pro tip: Whenever possible, segment your prospects and customers.

For example, email one survey to your leads and another to your customers. If that's difficult, email everyone and ask if they've purchased yet.

You'll get much cleaner data.

To improve your product:

Ask these either on your site (in the members area) or via an email survey.

  1. What are your 3 favorite things about our product?
  2. What are 3 things we should improve about our product?
  3. Did you look at any other solutions? If so, which ones? And what made you choose us over them?
  4. What's the one thing our product is missing?
  5. What's the one feature we could add to make this invaluable to you?
  6. What is the main reason you're cancelling today?
  7. How satisfied are you with our support?
  8. What results have you seen with our product? What was life like before you started using it?

Pro tip: Use these responses as testimonials on your site!

These answers will help you improve your products, create new products, reduce churn, and improve your customer support.

How you can get started:

First, set up Hotjar or VWO polls. Run questions on each page of your main funnel.

Pro tip: You can set up the polls to fire on exit, so it's not too disruptive to your visitors.

Second, create an email survey using Google Forms or Typeform. Then email the link to your list and start gathering feedback!

You can do all this in under two hours. And the insights you'll gain will help you improve your site, your sales, and your products.
