So, I read an article on self-organization and self-management and got this thought. The very vision of business value has changed. It feels that contributing to business value is a direct responsibility of an agile team.
Take the Growth team, for instance. It can totally operate under the principles of agile. Yet, the team is at the forefront of customer development. This alone makes it responsible for evolving the business value, if not shaping it.
Am I getting something wrong here?
Here’s the quote fueling my reflection:
“Thus, the original idea that a self-organizing team can take ownership of how the work is done makes sense, while the idea that they can also help to define business value does not make sense in all circumstances. That said, it’s been my experience that when we understand the value of our work to customers, we tend to feel more dedication and movitation, and greater satisfaction upon achieving a goal, than when we are merely carrying out assigned tasks with no context. It is helpful for a self-organizing team to be included in discussions of customer value, even if the individual team members have little to contribute to such discussions.” Dave Nicolette
