Standing in contrast are the Ethereals, alien creatures that roam the Hollows and pose a constant threat to humanity’s survival.
The Sword’s Shadow at Yunkui Summit: The Dual Life of Ye Shunguang
Ye Shunguang, a sword art inheritor from Yunkui Summit, holds a unique position within the worldview of Zenless Zone Zero. She is the second Void Hunter character following Hoshimi Miyabi—the Void Hunters representing the highest honor and the greatest power in New Eridu. As the junior disciple of Ye Shiyuan, she is originally a gentle-spirited young woman with a soft voice, affectionately called "Junior Disciple Xiaoguang" by her peers. Of course, she is also a very mysterious character, with players being particularly curious about Ye Shunguang thiren type.
However, Ye Shunguang’s true appeal lies in her subversive dual-form design. In her normal state, she appears as a gentle senior sister with flowing brown hair and a traditional, elegant outfit. But the moment she enters “Enlightened Mind,” she transforms into a white-haired, red-eyed combat form, her presence surging to its peak. This contrast goes far beyond appearance, extending into her fighting style—from graceful and fluid to fierce and overwhelming—perfectly blending two completely different temperaments within a single character.

The threat posed by Zenless Zone Zero Ethereals is classified into ten levels, ranging from Antimony-class to Mercury-class, with each level escalating in danger. Upper-tier Ethereals are not only more powerful but also significantly larger in size, making them the nightmare that Hollow explorers least wish to encounter. They are highly aggressive and will launch indiscriminate attacks against any other living beings within the Hollow.
Among these monsters, “Dead End Butcher” stands as one of the most iconic. This high-threat Ethereal possesses a terrifyingly massive body and is often found lurking within subway zones, treating entire warped and devastated areas as its own “forbidden kitchen.”
What makes it truly horrifying is that when it encounters a target that genuinely interests it, the high concentration of Ether within its body violently destabilizes within milliseconds, causing its limbs to rapidly mutate into even more savage forms. In other words, the “appetizer phase” is over, and a grotesque feast has officially begun.
