Anyone here using mining as a revenue stream?
Crypto mining, and I mean clear mining, that is letting the user know you will be using their computer/phone to mine coins in order to maintain your business.
Has anyone tried it? how did your users react? what strategies did you use?
I've not used it myself but every review and post mortem I've read has concluded the payout is too low for the cost in good will.

I don't sorry but I saw them on hackernews so maybe use their search for replacing ads, javascript mining, etc.

Crypto mining varies a lot depending on which coin you decide to mine, and how. See for example this quote:
So coinhive is not just a script but a middleman (probably an unnecessary one) that takes a hefty chunk and according to the niche site guy won't even pay unless you reach a certain amount meaning that they are pocketing a number of profits because those sites don't "make it".
Also interesting is that guy Cornet mentioning that sites with long duration visits would make a killing with this even if using things like coinhive. The article from motherboard is misleading to say the least since it admits the hack only lasted 4 hours. In comparison I heard starbucks got their wifi hacked for months to mine coins.
Even adding the 30% back in the amounts are minuscule compared to alternatives.
The limit they have is $140 at current prices and it seems like most people are struggling to hit that after months including the first article where they put it on a network with 100,000 monthly viewers and figured it would take 2 years to hit it even with the current price spikes.
There is also the problem that security programs are starting to flag the scripts as malware as well so you risk getting your site blocked. I personally avoid any site that runs one. I suspect they will be treated like auto playing midis in the near future.

Great question. I've heard about this monetization strategy a lot lately, but have no clue how one would set this up.

Haven't done anything yet but there are plenty of solutions (though none plug&play, needs some work done) but the real question is how viable it is
Basically, would it create enough revenue v. ads? and would users be okay with it?
