Have launched about few weeks ago a landing page for my side project (https://staticpages.io) to gauge interest in the product and collect audience to give beta version to.
Announced it to the crowd on the thematic forum (https://talk.jekyllrb.com/t/jekyll-showcase-share-your-sites-built-with-jekyll/44/78) and as you might expect...
I have received since then astounding 0 signups... nil, zero, nothing at all... :-(
Could you folks help me understand what am I doing wrong? I can figure out myself issues with the complicated software quickly and address those, but find out what is wrong with my landing page or announcement strategy and address it - nope, couldn't do it yet on my own.
Any feedback, idea or critique is very much appreciated - yes, that is, very much appreciated!
Thanks!
Here was my experience.
When I first landed on your page, I was immediately distracted by the flashy "coming soon", and it took me a while to read the "web pages for...", especially since that animation itself spends quite a bit of time in the "web pages for" phase.
If someone was put off by the "coming soon", they may not wait to read what your service does.
My suggestions are 1) switch out the "coming soon" for something less distracting 2) speed up the "web pages for..." animation and maybe add more info about what your service does 3) move the info in the "about" page into the homepage, underneath the sign up, so the user doesn't have to click just to learn more.
Ideally you'd want a user to know what your service does in the first 2-3 seconds.
Hope this helps!
Hi Shaun,
Appreciate your feedback very much! I have already started looking for a different theme to pick for the landing page.
"what your service does in the first 2-3 seconds" - that is a good one, I will stick with that and try to deliver.
Again, many thanks for taking your time to click thru the pages and give meaningful feedback!
There is no value proposition presented to me.
Hmm... that's a tough one - I definitely need to fix that. I guess I was negligent in defining value proposition.
I have to agree with the other comment regarding the rather annoying and distracting flashing "coming soon" bit. Other than it being annoying and distracting, my first impression was that this page is a basic coming soon page: the service/product is not ready yet and there isn't any other info about what this service/product does (took me a while to notice the "About" nav link).
But even reading through the "About" page, I still don't have a real idea about what your product/service is or why I should care (I make websites often, so I can only assume I am in your target audience).
Have you thought about how your ideal customer or target audience is? Can you approach a potential customer in real life and watch them interact with your site (there's also service that allow you to get this sort of feedback if "real life" is not feasible).
Hi Matt,
Thanks for the feedback! Yes, my target audience is people who design and launch sites.
Yeah, I do agree that landing page should be something different than what I put online currently.
Appreciate! :-)
