I was wondering if you guys struggle when writing your landing page copy/value proposition? If yes, What do you do? Do you try to figure it out on your own or do you hire someone?
I tend to stick with the AIDA framework for most things. It works.
But before I write the copy, I do a bit of research and try to incorporate “voice of customer” snippets into the copy.
It’s not about how you’d describe the problem and solution. It’s how they would do it. They’re usually better at it than you are.
If that fails, I go talk to people.
I go talk to people.
I ask them if this is clear, if it isn’t, and what are you wondering that hasn’t been addressed. It’s best if they’re your target market.
I can ask my sister about my CRO landing page but she’s a doctor and has no idea what CRO is.
It’d be a waste.
If you’re in any relevant FB groups, I’ve been able to get great feedback that way as well.
I avoid hiring it out because I enjoy the process and like to test (GOOGLE OPTIMIZER is a great way to do that).
What you’ll learn from writing the copy yourself (at least in the beginning) is invaluable.
This is such good feedback, Daniel! Thank you for sharing.
The part that resonated for me was:
That's because I've been neck deep iterating my landing page (www.tribefive.me) and this is a perfect reminder that I needed today!
I like that it feels the same from start to the end. Looks fresh too! +1 The only thing I'd do is to shorten it a bit, looks a bit too long to me. But that's not really a hard rule :)
Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to make an assumption that at some point on the landing page, you either decided "this is for me" or "this isn't for me"? And I'm going to assume that happened before you got to the bottom of the page.
If so...how far down did that happen?
Cheers!
Jonathan
This seems like a great landing page, if you ask me.
One little nitpick: The icons under the "30 DAY ACCOUNTABILITY CHALLENGE" section, the ones for "writing", "reading", "coding" ... they are of a different style than other graphics on the website. More glossy, 3d, as opposed to flat, and thus looks a little malplaced.
Other than that, this looks great.
Thanks for the kind words. You are totally right...they are different styles / graphics 😳
Really good. Thanks for sharing!
I read this page some time ago and recommend: https://www.julian.com/guide/growth/landing-pages
I was reading this a few months back, but then lost the link. I've been searching for it ever since!
You are literally my hero!
This link is great. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this link!
I would encourage you to do it yourself, no matter how bad a copywriter you consider yourself to be. It's your business, and you should probably know at least a few different ways of selling it.
I'm a dev and I'm struggling with a lot of these things - copy, email, 30 second pitches, 5 min pitches, 1 hour pitches, value propositios, unique selling point, blogs, ctas... but, I'm loving the heck out of figuring it all out! You're gonna profit a lot from that process in the end since you personally are the biggest advocate for your business, and knowing how to market it for free will liberate you and give you different perspectives.
Good luck.
Hey, thanks for sharing. I'm doing the same here.
I think you struggle most when to you don't know the problem you are solving and the gain you are providing to your potential customers.
If you know these two elements, it's then relatively easy. Take for instance if you're a trying to help people pay from home and help them get more time doing anything else,
Your value proposition might be:**Stop wasting time and pay your everyday courses from anywhere **
VP = stop specific pain + get gain.
Then, you may show how your solution works and add 1 or 3 features that resolve the exact match of pain you are solving.
In fact to help people like you I've put online a website that create a dynamic value proposition that gets better each time people visit your website and also ameliorate your SEO :

Hope it helped :)

You're welcome. But I have to say that it's your book that has made me share the link (as it's a good book)
Thanks for the links and comments!
I constantly struggle to write the landing page for Dashman. No matter what I write, when I ask for feedback, the answer is: it's wrong, you are focusing on features instead of benefits, you are too vague (that's when I give benefits instead of features), I don't understand what it is, etc.
I totally do. I hired 3 content writers off reddit and evaluated each of their work. Picked the one I liked the best. I was able to get away with $25 each!
If you're bad at copy, your best chance is to just... erm, copy things that work. For headlines especially, relying on tried and true formulas will work better than trying to come up with something yourself.
Once you understand the fundamentals of copy (most notably, the difference between features and benefits), you'll start to write MUCH better copy in no time. Relying on good examples speeds up that process, and that's why I used a lot of examples in my Landing Page Cookbook, and on my blog.
