Ask IH: What do you use to store (project) ideas?

I've got an old Google doc I've had forever that's just a bulleted list of ideas. It's nice because it's easy to scan, and easy to add to, and easy to add sub-bullet points when I happen to get an idea about an idea. My recommendation is not to over-engineer this.

I fell in love with Bear (http://www.bear-writer.com/) a couple months now and pretty much organise everything with it.
It uses markdown for fast formatting and the premium includes exports to multiple formats. Also you can organise your stuff with hashtags (e.g. #ideas)

I use it on Mac and iOS

https://www.notion.so/ is my goto app. I even lets me embed figma sketches.

I use both Trello and Simplenote to store ideas.

A good tip a friend gave me is to not store any. The good ones always come back.

Post-it notes stashed on the flyleaf of my carry-it-everywhere-with-my-laptop engineering notebook. All notes get moved each time I get a new notebook.

Evernote for everything. I am not a big fan of their design, feels overdesigned but haven’t found a good solution to migrate years of notes to Bear or something better.

I use Airtable for organising my entire life these days! It's like a Google Sheet with loads of apps built on top, including Kanban which is perfect for managing project ideas.

I use Simplenote (with tags) for the idea stage then come back later to refine and move ideas across to the Idealist iOS app and Business Model Generation app (only available US iTunes store??) for more details/projections/business modelling.

Wunderlist can be very handy. Nice that you can use it on PC and as a phone app (so it's always accessible for when those ideas strike).

I use Google Keep

I use workflowy. Its super simple, nested notes app/website. Lets me hide the clutter with expanding and collapsing ideas/categories.

It's amazing how diverse these answers are. I use OmniOutliner for brainstorming, collecting info, and staying organized.

Trello with 4 lanes ("1st", "comes back", "doing", "DONE"). I'm also using Evernote for longer drafts and notes.

I use Notes on macOS. Trello is also handy but I find Notes simpler.

I currently store all my ideas in a Notes, just as a plain text file and go through them now and again, adding tidbits. I'm planning to move to a system that Pieter Levels suggests in https://makebook.io, make a Trello board, and filter Ideas by viability & whether they have been tested or not into multiple lists.

I use keep/Evernote. Though I now realize I need to organize it all. Ideas by category. I've got short story/novel ideas, software, food, products, etc.

It has to be Evernote for me. Every little idea and thought that I have goes straight to Evernote. Absolutely love this little gem app. Such an invaluable tool. Simple, minimal and effective piece of app. The synchronisation is very smooth too. Needless to say, I've been using it for almost seven years this year.

My phone home screen consists of Evernote, calculator and chrome browser.

For tasks and organising them, I tend to use Trello. It's very handy, particularly when I am organising video episodes and prioritising them. I'd assume it's just as helpful for podcasters.

These days mostly Trello and Google Docs. Trello when it's just an idea, then Google Docs when I want to share requirements and resources with others.

I love Evernote and OneNote, but I've found more people are comfortable collaborating in Docs or Trello

I have a directory called projects and in that each project gets its own sub directory with a plain project.txt text file. Sometimes I will place mockups, graphics and other resources in the project directory but mostly it's a very basic and easy setup. Has worked for 10+ years for me.

I use google keep and use hashtags to tag posts.

Not the most sophisticated idea, but when an idea comes to mind, I just type it into a gmail draft and build onto that list. My gmail is always open, it's saved and sync'ed, and I don't have to install another app. For ideas that are a little further along, I just start writing my plan in a Google Doc.

I use a mixture of a yearly black moleskin note book and a google doc I've had up since high school. Ones better for searching but the other is more aesthetically pleasing to write in.

Any cloud synced notebook. I have used evernote, onenote, milanote and a few others. They are all good, its mostly just about sticking to using the one service and making sure all your notes are in one place. My notes are mostly just text and the occasional image so all these services satisfied my needs.

I used to have a Trello board, but now have an Asana board marked personal.

I put "IDEA:" in front and a few notes about what I'm thinking about. When I disregard the idea, it goes in the trash.

This morning's idea:
"IDEA: Conglomerate of online subscription services for one monthly fee. like what the library does but independent from them. Or like what cable bundling did for TV channels."

OneNote for everything. My notebook's bit of a mess, I must admit, but it works pretty well across all platforms and I often take handwritten notes on an iPad.

Right now, I mostly use Evernote. I put everything in there.

I use Evernote to track ideas each day. Then I input them all into an Airtable with categories and other meta data. Then I write up summary posts on Medium.

What I want is a tool where I can put in ideas, and it will automatically group them into day, week, month lists.
