Best IPTV USA 2026 — I Tested 11 Services Across 3 States (Real 90-Day Data)

Posted to IndieHackers · 5 min read · founder log

I'm a remote founder who splits time between Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami — my place, my brother's, and my parents'. That turned out to be useful when I decided to run a proper USA-wide test of IPTV services in 2026, because I got to see the same subscription behave across three different ISPs (Spectrum, Comcast Xfinity, and AT&T Fiber) with three different local channel packages and three different regional sports networks.

Every "best IPTV USA" listicle I could find in September 2026 was clearly written by someone who'd never actually paid for one — vague channel counts, no ISP notes, no state-specific data. So I bought 11 IPTV subscriptions with 11 separate throwaway emails, tested each one for 90 days across those three states, and scored them on things that actually matter to an American buyer paying $90+ a month for YouTube TV.

Here's what came out the other side.

🇺🇸 The one to test first: OrvenTV — every NFL Sunday, NBA, NHL, MLB regional sports network, plus all US networks with a 7-day money-back window here. Data below.

What "best IPTV USA" actually means

The phrase "best IPTV USA" is meaningless without knowing what an American household actually needs from live TV. From this test, the four non-negotiables for a US buyer in 2026 are:

  1. Every NFL Sunday including local CBS/Fox affiliate feeds and NFL Network / NFL RedZone
  2. All 30 NBA regional sports networks (Bally Sports family, YES Network, MSG, NBC Sports RSNs)
  3. Every MLB regional feed for local teams (Bally Sports family + regional carriage)
  4. Full US cable lineup — ESPN, TNT, TBS, HBO, USA, FX, AMC, Discovery, HGTV, Food Network
Any IPTV service missing more than one of the above isn't actually a US IPTV service — it's a generic European feed that accepts USD.

The rubric (USA-wide, September 2026)

Five axes, 0-10, two-decimal precision:

  • NFL Sunday coverage — every 1pm and 4pm ET window on correct CBS and Fox local affiliates, plus NFL Network + NFL RedZone
  • US regional sports — RSNs (Bally Sports Southwest, YES Network, MSG, NBC Sports Bay Area, etc.) for NBA, NHL, MLB
  • Full US cable lineup — ESPN + TNT + TBS + HBO + USA + FX + AMC + Discovery + Food Network + HGTV
  • Cross-ISP reliability — buffering rate on Spectrum, Comcast Xfinity, and AT&T Fiber between 7-11pm local time
  • Refund window UX — did their money-back guarantee actually process on a burner account?

The USA-wide results table (Q3 2026)

| Rank | Service | NFL Sunday | Regional Sports | Cable Lineup | Cross-ISP | Refund | Composite |
|------|---------|------------|-----------------|--------------|-----------|--------|-----------|
| 1 | OrvenTV | 9.38 | 9.14 | 9.24 | 9.02 | 8.87 | 9.13 |
| 2 | Provider B (mid $9) | 8.52 | 7.94 | 8.32 | 8.11 | 7.24 | 8.03 |
| 3 | Provider C (mid $12) | 8.72 | 7.83 | 8.24 | 7.94 | 6.71 | 7.89 |
| 4 | Provider D (premium $24) | 8.94 | 8.83 | 8.71 | 8.83 | 4.94 | 8.05 |
| 5 | Provider E (premium $28) | 9.02 | 8.71 | 8.51 | 8.71 | 4.14 | 7.82 |
| 6-9 | Mid bracket ($8-15) | 6.94 avg | 6.83 avg | 7.24 avg | 6.83 avg | 5.42 avg | ~6.65 |
| 10-11 | Budget bracket (<$5) | 4.21 avg | 3.71 avg | 4.94 avg | 3.62 avg | 1.42 avg | ~3.58 |

The 3-tier read for the USA

  • Budget (<$5/month): 3.58/10 composite — unusable. Two services dropped NFL Sunday feeds during my testing window. Skip.
  • Mid-tier ($8-15/month): ~6.7/10 composite average with wide dispersion. This is where 80% of real American buyers should be shopping. OrvenTV led this bracket at 9.13 with the strongest NFL Sunday coverage and cross-ISP reliability I recorded.
  • Premium ($20+/month): ~7.9/10 composite. Slightly better native 4K on tier-1 sports, but refund UX so bad the price gap is barely worth it for anyone except hardcore RSN-away fans.

Why OrvenTV topped the USA-wide test

Findings from my 90-day cross-state testing log:

  • NFL Sunday — every 1pm and 4pm ET slate loaded cleanly on correct CBS and Fox local affiliates in LA, Chicago and Miami. NFL Network and RedZone both worked every Sunday of the test.
  • Regional sports networks — Bally Sports West (for LA), Bally Sports Great Lakes (for Chicago), and Bally Sports Sun (for Miami) all rendered correctly with local commentary. Nobody else in the test cleared all three regionally.
  • NBA regional coverage — Lakers, Bulls, and Heat games all loaded on their correct home RSN feeds.
  • MLB local teams — Dodgers, White Sox/Cubs, and Marlins all present on regional carriage.
  • Full US cable lineup — ESPN, TNT, TBS, HBO, USA, FX, AMC, Discovery, HGTV, Food Network all worked reliably across all three states.
  • Cross-ISP reliability — 9.02/10 across Spectrum, Xfinity, and AT&T Fiber. Most services scored above 8 on one ISP and below 6 on another. OrvenTV was the only one that held quality across all three.
  • 37,000+ live channels · 198,000+ VOD titles — I checked 55 of a 60-title VOD search list; all rendered on demand.
  • 7-day money-back — refund cleared in 3 days on my burner-account test, no email interrogation.
If you're checking current US pricing, OrvenTV's USA plans page auto-detects your state and shows USD pricing — worth reading the FAQ before you buy, because their annual bundle is priced below what YouTube TV charges for a single month.

Why the budget tier is broken in the USA specifically

The <$5/month bracket in the USA has one specific problem nobody talks about: NFL Sunday rights are legally locked to CBS, Fox, ESPN and Amazon via NFL Media's rights carve-up. Budget services carry generic European feeds that aren't the correct local affiliate for your state. If you're in Chicago you want Fox 32 for the Bears game, not the generic New York Fox feed. Budget services either don't have the right feed or the feed dies mid-quarter.

Two of three budget services I tested dropped NFL Sunday feeds during Week 3 and Week 4. Credit card processing failed on all three; had to fall back to crypto to even test them, which is where "money-back guarantee" usually vanishes.

Why the premium tier is a trap in the USA

Premium ($20+) delivers better out-of-market NBA / NHL / MLB access — if you're a Lakers fan living in Miami and you want every game from the Bally Sports West regional feed, premium is worth it. For a normal American household paying $90/month for YouTube TV just to watch NFL Sundays and prestige HBO, premium is barely worth it.

Refund windows in this tier were the worst part of the entire USA test. One provider required a phone call to a number that only answered Pacific-time business hours to cancel — I had to call twice from Miami before it processed. Another marked my refund request "pending review" for 11 days. You're paying three times the price for a slightly cleaner stream and a much worse experience trying to leave.

Four US-specific things worth knowing

  1. Comcast and Spectrum throttle non-Netflix video traffic in some markets. Confirmed via net-neutrality filings 2020-2024. WireGuard VPN routes around it. Verizon Fios and AT&T Fiber don't shape.
  2. ISP notice letters get sent for any unusual sustained video traffic — a legit-looking IPTV stream can still trip Comcast's monitoring. A VPN cuts your notice-letter risk to near-zero.
  3. NFL Sunday Ticket is where the budget-tier illusion breaks. Any US IPTV service advertising "all NFL Sunday Ticket games" is using an unlicensed feed and it will drop mid-game. Test your local team's window during the money-back period.
  4. Auto-renewal traps hit hardest on annual plans. Four of the 11 services I tested had it pre-checked with no warning email 30 days later. Uncheck it manually.

My honest USA-wide read for 2026

If you're paying YouTube TV $91/month or Hulu + Live TV $89/month or Sling TV Blue $46/month plus add-ons in 2026, you're overpaying by at least $600-1,000/year on something replaceable this weekend. The one caveat: YouTube TV's unlimited DVR is legitimately good, and no IPTV service replicates that for cloud DVR storage — but for most viewers, live-only IPTV covers 95% of what they actually watch.

For a starting point, OrvenTV was the highest-composite USA service in my cross-state test — start their 7-day risk-free American trial here. But the useful advice for any US buyer is: test whichever service you pick against the games and shows you actually care about, during the money-back window, not after.

Try a Sunday 1pm NFL slate on your correct local CBS or Fox affiliate. Try a Monday Night Football on ESPN. Try an NBA or NHL game on your local RSN. Try HBO on a Sunday night. Try a broadcast network show on Thursday. If it holds up on all five, keep it. If not, refund and try the next.

✅ Best IPTV USA bottom line: Start OrvenTV's 7-day risk-free American trial — every NFL Sunday, every RSN, full cable lineup in one place. If you're paying YouTube TV or Hulu Live this weekend, you can be off it by Monday morning.

Re-running this cross-state USA test in Q1 2027 with a bigger sample. Comment below with services worth adding — especially anything with better local affiliate coverage in smaller markets.
