Built avif.pics - A browser AVIF viewer because I was tired of downloading sketchy apps

Ever downloaded a random .avif file and had absolutely no way to open it without installing some sketchy software? That was me last month.
The problem: AVIF is the new image format (better compression than JPEG/PNG), but native OS support is hit-or-miss. Windows Photo Viewer? Nope. macOS Preview? Sometimes. And I wasn't about to download random .exe files just to see an image.
What I built: avif.pics - A dead-simple browser-based AVIF viewer
Zero uploads (100% client-side processing)
Zero installs
Works on literally any device with a browser
Better corruption handling than native viewers
The tech: Pure JavaScript, runs entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your machine. Privacy-first by design.
