Calling every weekly board a "Product Hunt alternative" quietly ruins your launch week

I keep seeing the same mistake on weekly boards. Maker shows up Monday like it is Product Hunt Tuesday. Posts a short blurb. Asks friends for a quick upvote. Then disappears Wednesday because "the spike already happened."

Weekly boards are not a softer PH. They are a different sport. On IndieHunt the window runs Mon–Mon. Homepage oxygen lasts days, not hours. Comments compound. People come back mid-week. If you treat it like a 24-hour exam, you leave half the value on the table and then blame the board.

I built IndieHunt for indie / AI makers who need that longer room. Free and paid tiers exist, but the real product is the week — not a badge screenshot. When makers only copy-paste their PH assets and ghost after day one, the board looks empty and their listing looks abandoned.

What actually works on a Mon–Mon board from what I see running it:

  • Write a pitch for people who will find you on day 3, not only day 1 friends.

  • Reply every day for at least the first 4–5 days. Mid-week replies often matter more than the Monday rush.

  • Ship one small update mid-week if you can (changelog, demo fix, clearer screenshot). Weekly audiences notice movement.

  • Do not stack your Product Hunt day inside the same week unless you can staff both. Split attention kills both rooms.

Product Hunt Alternatives ranks weekly platforms separately from daily ones for a reason. Peerlist, Smol Launch, DevHunt, EarlyHunt, IndieHunt — different crowds, same "week not day" rule. If your mental model is still "launch morning," you will underperform on all of them.

If you are launching on IndieHunt (or any weekly board) soon: are you planning for seven days of presence, or just Monday energy?
