Connecting Instagram performance to actual site traffic, in one Claude conversation

Most of the Instagram and GA4 use cases we've written about work well on their own. The more useful pattern is running them together, since the real question is rarely "how did this post perform" in isolation, it's "did this post actually bring anyone to the site."

Why this is normally two separate jobs

Instagram engagement data lives in one place, GA4 referral and conversion data lives in another, and connecting the two usually means exporting both, matching them up by date, and building the comparison by hand. Most people just don't, so social performance and site performance get reported separately and nobody closes the loop.

Use case: content-to-conversion attribution

Ask Claude to pull your top Instagram posts by engagement for the last 30 days, then pull GA4 sessions and conversions from Instagram referral traffic for the same window. Put side by side, the posts with the most likes aren't always the ones actually driving traffic, and that gap is usually the more useful thing to know.

Use case: launch day monitoring across both

During a product launch or campaign push, ask for Instagram engagement on the launch post alongside GA4 real-time active users and traffic sources, in the same conversation. You can watch both signals together instead of switching between the Instagram app and a GA4 dashboard while things are moving fast.

Use case: influencer collaboration ROI

Vet a creator's Instagram engagement before a paid collaboration, then after the post goes live, pull GA4 referral traffic and conversions for that same period to see whether it actually translated into sessions or sales, not just impressions on the platform where the content lived.

Use case: posting cadence against traffic trends

Compare your Instagram posting frequency and engagement over a longer window (say, the last quarter) against GA4 session trends for the same period, to see whether more frequent posting actually correlates with more site traffic for your audience, or whether the two are unrelated.

Why this matters more than either tool alone

Instagram engagement metrics answer "did people respond to the content." GA4 answers "did people act on it." Most reporting stops at the first question because connecting it to the second takes manual work. When both data sources are available in the same Claude conversation, the connection is just the next question you ask, not a separate project.

Where to get it

Both the Instagram and GA4 tools are part of the Smacient connector for Claude: smacient.com/products/marketing-context-claude. The connector is listed in Anthropic's Claude Connectors Directory, browsable from Settings or "Search and tools" inside Claude: claude.com/connectors, search "Smacient" once you're there.

Curious if anyone else is stitching together data across platforms like this inside Claude, or if most people are still keeping social and analytics reporting separate.

Appreciate the honesty here, most people only share the wins.

Thanks for writing this up. Bookmarking it for later.

The cross-source pattern is where connectors start earning their keep; single-source questions are mostly faster in the native dashboard anyway. Since the tools are already MCP, the same server can also be listed for Meta Muse, which went to #1 on the App Store last week and accepts MCP connectors. Worth a look as a second distribution channel: the community templates and examples are at shipwithmuse.live/categories/connectors-and-mcp (I maintain shipwithmuse.live). Curious whether OAuth per GA4 property survives agencies with 30+ clients.

The gap between engagement metrics and actual conversions is often the most valuable signal. In my experience, the posts that get mass-liked by casual followers rarely convert, but the posts that get 10 thoughtful replies from actual users drive real traffic. Running these side-by-side forces that pattern to surface. Have you found that the conversion traffic skews toward different post types than the engagement winners?

This is great work — reminds me of some of the calls I've had to make building Xstream4K. What would you do differently if you started over?
