DoINeedALandingPage.com didn't win you over?

On Monday I'll be interviewing someone for the S4F podcast who made over $150k in revenue before creating a landing page! 😵🔥

What should I ask them?

    How he got his customers.

It didn't win me over neither will an interview with someone who is making $150k in revenue without it, for a lot of reason that I will list here.

    1. you start with the assumption that 6+ hours are required to make a landing page. There are tools that help make a landing page in literally 10 minutes.
    2. building a landing page is a useful exercise even if you land 0 customers. It forces you to be concise, to be able to clearly express what your product does, to focus on just the aspects that matter. It helps you develop copywriting and sales skills.
3.150k in revenues is far from being impressive. Plus, I don't understand why people talk about revenue instead of profit. Probably because bigger numbers sound better even if they mean nothing.
    3. the right question to ask should be "how much this guy could be making with a landing page?" instead of using it as proof that you don't need a landing page.
    4. I believe (because I lived it myself and on others) that you can build a sizable business on basically anything. Things like validation and product/market fit are fundamental if you are trying to build a huge corporation. if you are ok with a low 7-figures business, you can build it out of everything nowadays. There are people making six figures sending glitter o messages on potatoes. A lot of people fail because they are unable to find the product/market fit fast enough and immediately go to another idea. And do it tens of times.

it's ironic that you call me aggressive when I gave you six valid reasons while I can't find a single one in your comment and you went exclusively on the personal side (something that I didn't).

The fact that I don't brag about my accomplishments doesn't mean that I am inexperienced.

I leave bragging to insecure people. The same goes for downvoting. Maybe you know what I mean.

Your comment shows an incredible lack of arguments and self-awareness. I want to remind that you asked a question and got my answer. Don't ask, if you are not ready to hear the truth, at least my truth.

If I'm wrong, I do want to know.

          So here's my offer...

You came up with five points. I disagree with all of them.

In fact, I thought they're so obviously wrong that it wasn't even worth responding to them. Kind of like you wouldn't engage in an argument with someone who tells you that we don't need to go to the moon because it's made of cheese.

But maybe you're right. And if you are, it's important more founders find out and stop wasting their time with things like sales and customer development.

So how about you come on my podcast and we discuss each point and hear your reasoning in detail?

I'll share it in my newsletter, and it'll reach thousands of founders who you could be saving from a lot of needless hard work!

          What do you say?

My email is in my profile ;)

"But maybe you're right. And if you are, it's important more founders find out and stop wasting their time with things like sales and customer development".

I never said something even remotely close to this. I see two options: 1. my English is so bad that I am not aware of what I am saying. 2. You are straw-manning my arguments to make me look like a fool and get an easy win.

In both cases, I am not a good fit for your podcast.

If you would be so nice to let me know where I said that sales and customer development are wasted time, I would be extremely thankful.

I find strange that I could come up with such an idiotic concept, considering the fact that:

            1. I have a sales background
            2. I can't code, sales and marketing are the only business skills that I have
            3. I just give up on a project (after a week) because I had to build an audience before making money and I want to start making money from day1, even better hour1.

If you would be so nice to let me know where I said that sales and customer development are wasted time, I would be extremely thankful.

You said DoINeedALandingPage.com didn't win you over.

The site argues that you shouldn't build a landing page until you've done some sales and customer discovery.

So you must believe the opposite - that you should build a landing page before doing sales and customer discovery.

In which case, people are wasting time doing sales and customer development (unless they've already built a landing page).

Maybe it is your English, and you thought I was arguing against making a landing page at all?

              1. 2

I gave you five specific reason and none of them was "sales and customer development are wasted time". I actually never talk about sales or customer development.

                I just said that:

                1. you can build a landing page in minutes
                2. it is always a useful exercise to develop business-relevant skills like the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner and sell the key benefit of your product.
                3. 150k in revenue is not impressive and means nothing in this context. Revenue is a good measure when you are trying to assess the potential and growth of a company in a winner take all market. In this context, I want to hear about after-tax profits.
                4. the fact that he was able to make 150k in revenue is not proof of your point. To actually prove you must show me that with a landing page his revenue would be the same. And, even in this case, it means only that in his particular case, a landing page isn't needed, which is not a general statement.
                5. you can be successful with any kind of product if you execute it well enough and you are persistent. I admit that this is just my opinion and my original post I said "I believe" for this exact reason. I am not able to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. If you consider that bottled water and homeopathy are industries worth tens of billions just in the US and that there are companies making high-six figures/low seven figures sending glitter (https://shipyourenemiesglitter.com/) sending people shit (https://www.shitexpress.com/) and messages on potatoes (https://potatoparcel.com/) I could be wrong but it isn't a completely silly argument.
