Graphics for programmers?
Where do you guys get graphics, icons, for you apps when you don’t know how to design?
There are a lot of stock vectors/icons sites but really hard to find a good fit especially when trying to keep color/look theme consistent in the app. For example, you might find an icon or image in one set but it is missing another critical icon. So you go hunting for that and end up with a different look.
I looked into custom icon designs but that can get very expensive very quickly.
Just curious if you guys have tips for icons and grpahics in the apps.
These are my favorites:
Undraw for MIT licensed illustrations. The main color can be customized to fit your palette.
Heroicons for icons that are great for landing pages and can be customized with CSS

Font Awesome has a great collection in 3 different weights that I use all the time.

I love FontAwesome. Absolutely easy to use and they have tons of free icons.
Tons of free icons and illustrations:
https://www.freepik.com and flaticon.com - pretty sure those are the same company.
Large collections and there are also collections that are very similar in style, so, you can easily mix-and-match while keeping the same general style.
Freepik can be used for free with an attribution link. $10/month gives you access to premium icons and a better license.
No links when using a paid account, don't have to keep subscription active either, so, you can get all the graphics you need and cancel at the end of the month.
Nice tip there. I always also asking my self regarding the attribution link until I messaged their support and got to the conclusion that activating subscription I could get what I needed and wouldn't need attribution even after canceling it.
I haven't got an answer as my request to getting (or how to get) more of a particular set of icons though.

For simple performance oriented projects, HTML entities can be used to avoid any extra assets.
The icon set from Material Design is very extensive https://material.io/icons/
I also like to use their color palette; almost every color combination looks great https://material.io/guidelines/style/color.html#color-color-palette
Another great icon set is feather icons https://feathericons.com/
For icons, how about just use emoji? I tend to just use emoji for my early concepts, inspired from Nomadlist.io 😅
But for graphics, if you have a sets of graphics/illustration to do, I'll suggest go to Dribbble.com and find your affordable design to draw sets of illustration for you. With this you can have a very consistency style on your products.
If you don't mind paying a few bucks, ui8.net also has some high quality icons and illustrations (they are in the icon category).
Two that comes to mind: fontello.com and thenounproject.com
Both are excellent with a lot of icons. Also, fontello allows you to convert your SVG files to font icons if you're into that.

https://icons8.com/paid-license-99/#/ is really good for having lots of consistent icons to choose from. You can use it for free if you include an attribution link. If that bothers you, wait until you're making money before paying or switch it out for something else later.
