Hit 96 users on our waitlist!

Jemsplash.com hit a huge milestone over the weekend. Considering that I started putting this together 1 month ago, I am super proud of the fact that we have reached 96 users on our waitlist. Aiming to hit 100 users.

Yes this is a micro-win for me but, you got to hit 100 users before you hit 1,000. I will share a few things I have done to reach this milestone.

First, I want to briefly explain what Jemsplash is. Jemsplash is a marketplace that allows content creators to sell their digital products such as the following:

  • Ebooks
  • Courses (Audio & Video)
  • Films
  • Software
  • Themes
  • Guides/PDFs
  • Comics
  • & more

We are an alternative to Gumroad and Payhip. We allow our sellers to not worry about high transaction fees as we only charge 5% on our free tier, and 12% on the actual marketplace compared to Gumroads 8% on the free tier and 18% on the marketplace.

We also have upsell features that we will encourage users to take advantage of as well as KPI/Accountability features on the sellers dashboard to measure their MRR goals.

Our MVP will be rolling out in the next few weeks and anymore Advanced features you will be able to see on the Pricing or Features page once it is released.

Now.... what were my techniques to obtaining 96 users (thus far)

  1. Craigslist
I posted an ad on Craigslist discussing the website and encourage authors, creators, entrepreneurs to join the waitlist if they are looking for an additional revenue stream by selling on the marketplace and explaining that they can sell on their own website too.
    Cost: $7

  2. Facebook Groups
I posted in two Content Creators Facebook groups 4 times in total about Jemsplash and it's benefits.
    Cost: $0

  3. Promoting on my Twitter.
I always engage with #blacktechtwitter seeing that I am a black woman in tech, I have received a great amount of support :) I have received support from allies, and friends as well that are interested in selling their digital products.
    Cost: $0

  4. Post on Reddit.
I actually suck at this and am working on a better strategy but, I believe I received 1 user from Reddit so woohoo!
    Cost: $0

  5. Instagram
I have created an Instagram for Jemsplash and have also promoted the waitlist through my Instagram. I don't have a bunch of Content Creators following me however, I have received a lot of donations for Jemsplash so... that helped too!
    Cost: $0

  6. IndieHackers
Can't forget about one of my favorite platforms! I have received almost half of my waitlist from THIS great platform and want to thank you all who have joined our waitlist from this here platform.
    Cost: $0

So in total it has costed me $7 buckaroos to get 96 users to join. Now that I know personally what channels are my strong points, I will put more of an effort in promoting on them more and building valuable content and threads. (IndieHackers, Twitter, Facebook Groups)

P.S: I haven't given up on Reddit....I am going to watch a Youtube video after this.

Wow congrats. What do you use to manage your waitlist and referral on your landing page?

    That's a great win!

Can you explain more about your Craigslist strategy? I've never thought to use CL to market a SaaS.

  3. 1

Nice! What will the actual transaction fees be?

    Nice! Go you go!

Very well done! Keep it up this way! ;-) Reddit is truly a difficult place to promote your service, you need to have well thougth out, helpful content and keep the marketing talk very subtle
