How do I find low competition keywords in a competitive niche?
I'm in the mental health and wellness sector and struggle to find low competition keywords to write content. Many of the long tail keywords I search already have strong competition.
The product offers wellness and meditation courses + audio selected by mindfulness therapists to help with stress and anxiety.
As most know this area was voted the app store trend of 2018.
Does anyone have a strategy that they do when trying to find low competition keywords in a competitive niche?
My favorite tool is Neil's Ubersuggest. Who knows what algorithm is used to justify search volume and SEO difficulty. But I judge utility on a relative basis. The keyword suggestions and related words is often full of gems.
This is generally much harder than it used to be due to the way that Google's understanding of topical relevance has improved
In the past, when Google was looking at keywords as strings of characters, it was possible — as the little guy — to find strings of characters to target that others hadn't considered
These days Google understands relevance on a wider thematic/topical basis which means that relevant content will rank even if it doesn't include the exact terms being searched for
The chance that others haven't optimised for the same topic/theme is much lower and thus the competition is higher across the board
My recommendation would be to get as specific as possible with regard to your USPs and hope that there are a small number of people searching with queries that include those
