I'm curious.
What does being focused mean to you? What are your most pressing frustrations in getting focused and staying focused? (Both on high-level goals and day-to-day tasks)
And what did you do to overcome the challenges?
Probably somewhat related to your question. I've noticed recently that I have become habitually unfocused during the workday. Most of the things I do are about jumping from meeting to meeting and constantly answering emails.
For now, I'm considering what's the best way to bring more focused work even when I'm required to do a lot of distracting activities. Probably some ideas from Cal Newport's Deep work may work me.
True. It's easy to focus when the tasks are simple and straightforward, but the reality is that we all have work that pulls us into multiple directions at once.
@AlexMartynov Have you finished reading Deep Work? If yes, what are some of your favorite ideas?
Yes, I have finished Deep Work. I cannot say that I liked it very much. In some places it is too shallow and unconvincing, as per my taste.
What I did like is kind of obvious idea is that if you do unfocused work for most of your time it becomes harder to do focused work -- because you fostered a bad habit.
And connected to that is the idea that one needs to learn to do nothing and be bored sometimes rather than fill every free minute with some distracting activity like checking emails or social networks.
There are also some interesting strategies to integrate focused work in one's life. Overall, a good book.
Thanks for the review on Deep Work. It's in my reading list for sometimes but I haven't took the time to go throught it :)
I write notes in Freemind mindmaps when I read books. If you want, I can send you my notes.
