How to hire developers?
When you hire developers what do you look for in them? How do you test that this developer is the right one for you at this time?
Do you simply hire a recruiter? If yes, what's that process like?
If you do it yourself, do you give them leetcode style algorithm questions? Or take home projects?
A lot of Devs I know say that companies don't test for skills they're directly use at the job. If you're someone who hires, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this remark.

Algorithmic questions can be crammed, and tend to be an advantage for those with extra study time/skills and/or recent graduates.
Take home projects are great for single people who have no extra curriculars but disadvantage to those with families or other things in life.
Preference is to have a few of one-hour calls. This should allow anyone that has a day job to still take time to interview and not take time out for a 1/2 day++ interview/whiteboard/whatever.
First call is just getting to know them.
Second call is to discuss past projects + show off their existing code/Github/etc, and have them actually discuss the decisions they made + explain why.
Last call is to introduce the team, and (possibly) do a little bit of pair programming on some small existing code/bugs within our app to see how they think live, but not too much pressure with an unknown system.

But what about people who work day jobs so they don't have time to build any projects they can show on Github?
