This lines up with what I'm learning too. I have several fiction titles on Gumroad, and the growth without an existing audience is the hardest part, exactly what you described. The point about being the product if you have nothing to sell really landed for me.

Now that I have published these books, I am seeking some advice, suggestions, or tips to make it work by getting some real sales. The thing is, I don't have any email lists or good social media followers or subscribers.

There's not much new for indie hackers in the article. But I found this part interesting:

And I want them to realise have the experience of creating something, selling it, and making money online.

I do have a question, is it possible to not have PDF on Gumroad but rather set up some sort of webpages that are only accessible after someone pays?
