Nice article with helpful advice. "Wear One Hat at a Time" is something I need to remember more often :) I often find myself trying to do too much at one time and not making progress in any area. I've found keeping a to-do list that is divided up by topic (or hat) keeps me focused saves me switching costs.
Thank you! Yes it's important to divide your time so you are focused on one task. If you're writing code but also trying to make product decisions, it'll only lead to frustration!
Great writeup Andy. I use a digital kanban board for ideas and order by priority/worth, then graduate tasks to their own boards when they're fleshed out.
Being a backend web coder though frontend is a big bottleneck right now. I use Bootstrap but it still feels like I'm hacking at it, any tips for improving my Bootstrap game?
I haven't used bootstrap in a few years. But the best design advice for non designers is to keep things as simple as possible and borrow heavily from other design patterns. Also to use whatever frameworks you are most productive in. For me, that is Tachyons.css, which makes css fun and fast.
