How we organize our software development process

Question on your process - why create a backlog? You break down an epic into stories and store it in a backlog until you are ready to start coding it. Why not wait until you are ready to code it before breaking it down?
Maintaining that backlog or even remembering what it was about when you flip it to "Not Started" seems like needless overhead.
Hey David, thank you for the question. What you suggest is awesome and that is exactly what we do.
When the team decides that an epic must be shipped in the next release, we break it down into stories.
The exception is when someone has an idea for a feature and wants to capture more details of it, we ask that they create an epic and start adding details in the notes or as stories so that when we do get to the epic, knowledge is not lost.
