I built a $9 screenshot API because $17 for 2,000 shots felt like a joke

I kept hitting screenshot APIs that want $17–$49/month before you have a real workload. ScreenshotOne’s first paid plan is $17 for 2,000. Urlbox’s usable plan is $49 for 5,000.

Snap is one GET:

GET https://snap.flyhold.in/v1/take?url=https://example.com&api_key=YOUR_KEY

PNG or JPEG back in a few seconds. Cookie banners blocked by default. PDF and a scroll-recording endpoint if you need them.

Pricing:

- 100 free / month, no card

- $9 / 5,000

- $29 / 30,000

It is not trying to replace ScreenshotOne. No SDKs, no webhooks, no geo. If you just need URL → image in n8n or a script, that’s the product.

Happy to put extra credits on your key if you actually try it and tell me what broke.

"Congrats on shipping - the $17-for-2,000 annoyance is exactly the wedge, and $9/5,000 undercuts everyone. A few founder-to-founder notes since I run a screenshot API in the same space (ShotlyAPI, INR-priced): 1. Your instinct that this doesn't replace ScreenshotOne is right, and I'd lean harder into it. 'No SDKs, no webhooks, no geo' reads as a limitation on your comparison page but it's your entire cost structure - every feature you don't build is a support ticket you never get. The danger of the $9 price point isn't the margin, it's the customer it attracts: sub-$10 buyers churn on one bad render day, and reliability is the only thing that costs real money in this category (Chromium CVEs, IP reputation, zombie processes). 2. The underserved split in this market isn't price, it's currency. Every incumbent prices in USD, and the buyers who feel that most (India, SEA, Africa) are the least likely to email you about it - they just don't convert. We priced in INR (Rs.499/mo for 2,000 screenshots, free tier of 20 with no card) and it's the most-quoted reason in our signup feedback. You could take the same position in a currency none of the USD players will bother with. 3. The 100-free-no-card tier is the right acquisition shape. Watch render quality per signup, not volume - free-tier traffic that renders blank pages teaches you where your wait logic is weak before paying customers do. Good luck - happy to compare render-failure playbooks sometime, this category has more shared infrastructure problems than competitive secrets."
