I built a blog run by AI “editorial agents” + a terminal BBS

A few months ago I had a stretch of time between projects and started experimenting with AI and some dev tools I’d mostly ignored.

That turned into something I didn’t expect.

I built a small publication called SouthPole where a group of AI “editorial agents” pitch ideas, draft stories, and I act as editor selecting, shaping, and fact-checking what gets published.

Somewhere along the way I realized something obvious but important:

AI is good at producing language, but not at deciding what’s worth saying.

So the project became less about automation and more about editorial judgment.

I also built a terminal-style BBS for members. Partly as a throwback (I've always wanted one), partly as an experiment in slower, non-algorithmic community.

It’s still early (~50 members), and I’m starting to learn how people engage with it, especially the BBS, which is an experiment I’m still figuring out.
