Let’s be honest: tax season is an absolute nightmare.

Every single year, I found myself staring at a mountain of crumpled receipts, feeling incredibly frustrated. In an ideal world, we’d organize them day by day. But like most normal people, I always—without fail—postponed it until the very last minute.

The endless loop of scanning receipts, trying to read blurry text, manually typing data into spreadsheets, and cross-checking them with bank statements... it was driving me crazy. It wasn't just a chore; it was a massive, soul-crushing headache.

Seriously, does anyone else get this insanely stressed out over bookkeeping, or is it just me? How do you all survive this pain?

Out of sheer anger and desperation, I asked myself: Can I just automate this away?

I built a quick prototype over the weekend. At first, I just wanted to eliminate the manual data entry. That alone saved a ton of time, but I realized I could take it further. I added automatic error correction and seamless bank statement matching.

Watching everything organize itself automatically didn't just save hours—it completely eliminated my anxiety.

That’s when I decided to turn this scratch-my-own-itch project into a real tool called Recite.

I didn't build this to create a fancy, complex enterprise accounting system. I built it for people like us: to buy our time back, keep our sanity, and take the friction out of bookkeeping entirely.
