I built Said & Saved to preserve my parents' stories — here's what I learned

My parents have stories I've never written down. I kept

meaning to sit down and record them, but life got busy.

So I built Said & Saved.

Three questions arrive on WhatsApp each morning. They

answer by voice. Claude AI writes their memoir. At the

end — a real hardcover book.

The technical stack:

- Node.js/Express on DigitalOcean

- Twilio WhatsApp Business API

- Anthropic Claude (Haiku for questions, Sonnet for prose)

- OpenAI Whisper for voice transcription

- Lulu API for print fulfillment

- Supabase for everything else

Biggest challenges:

1. WhatsApp Business API is brutal to set up

2. Getting Claude to write consistently literary prose

3. Making the question generation contextual (builds on

previous answers)
