A couple of weeks ago, I started experimenting with pricing for LiveFaceSwap AI, a real-time AI face swap tool for webcam use.
My original monthly pricing was:
I wanted to improve ARPU and gross margin, so I tested two higher-price structures:
In both tests, I deliberately made Pro look much better value than Basic — roughly 2× the price for about 4× the credits — hoping more users would skip Basic and choose Pro.
That didn't really happen.
Overall purchase conversion dropped quite a bit. Both Basic and Pro saw noticeably fewer purchases, and Max barely sold at all.
My current theory is that real-time face swap is still unfamiliar enough that the first payment feels partly like a trial.
At $12, it's easier to think:
I'll try it and see if it works for me.
At $19 or $29, users probably need much more confidence before paying.
So I moved back to $12 / $29 / $89.
I'm now A/B testing $12 vs. $15 for Basic, but so far the results look very similar, so I'll probably stop that test too.
Quarterly billing has worked reasonably well: 3 months for the price of 2. That makes me think users are willing to spend more once they already trust the product.
So now I'm back to the original question:
How would you price these three tiers?
Would you keep $12 / $29 / $89?
Or change the gaps between Basic, Pro, and Max while keeping the entry price low?
Makes sense. Are you planning to charge for it, or keep it free for now?
Solid lesson. Which channel has worked best for you so far?
Helpful post. How did you get your first bit of traction?
I post everywhere I could to get the word out, and also worked on getting backlinks to improve my SEO rankings.
Really relatable. How much time do you put into this each week?
I do it full-time, around 12-14 hours a day. I quit my job a few months ago to become a full-time indie hacker, and now I'm exploring different SaaS products and trying to make a living from them.
Interesting take. Would you still recommend this approach to someone starting today?

Appreciate the honesty here, most people only share the wins.
Good point. Did you test that with users before committing to it?
I have sent 20 emails to users, but no one reply me..
