I used to skip pre-launch boards. That was dumb after I ranked 70+ platforms.

For a long time I treated launch day like the only day that mattered. Daily board. Submit form. Refresh. Panic. Ignore anything that said "coming soon" or "waitlist" because it felt like busywork.

Then I sat down and ranked 70+ platforms for Best Launch Platforms and the pattern got annoying clear. Pre-launch boards (BetaList-style) are not a softer Product Hunt. They are a different phase. The ones that work ask you to show up 2–4 weeks early, collect emails while the product is still ugly, and give strangers a reason to care before you fight a 24-hour leaderboard.

I was burning mornings on daily slots with zero warm list. Cold audience + daily contest is just hope with a countdown timer. The pre-launch queue is boring. Approvals take forever. Copy gets rejected. But when a daily day finally hits, you are not yelling into an empty room.

What I do now for anything I ship under Aura++:

  1. File 1–2 pre-launch / waitlist boards first, even if the landing page still says WIP.

  2. Keep one daily board for the actual launch morning (Aura++ is built for that rhythm).

  3. Do not stack three "daily Product Hunt clones" on the same calendar day. They all want the same 6 hours of comment energy.

The Best Launch Platforms methodology weights reach, intent, evergreen value, AI visibility, fairness, and ease. No paid placement. Aura++ sits in that ranking as an operator-owned daily board and I do not boost it. The useful takeaway is not "my site is cool." It is: match the board type to the phase. Waitlist before spike. Daily for the day. Weekly if you need a week of homepage oxygen.

If you only have one launch morning this month, ask yourself honestly: do you already have people who said they want this, or are you hoping strangers upvote you into existence?

What are you filing first next launch — waitlist board or daily slot?
