I wanted to try the speed of using Next.js and shadcn. so I built this Monkey VS AI Project in 4 days

I decided to give Next.js and shadcn a try, and they definitely helped speed up the building process. I built this fun experiment in four days to explore Burton Malkiel's theory: www.monkeyvsai.com

In his book, "A Random Walk Down Wall Street", Burton Malkiel illustrates the efficient market hypothesis with the idea of a blindfolded monkey throwing darts at a stock market list. This metaphor suggests that a randomly selected portfolio can perform as well as one chosen by expert stock pickers.

How the experiment works:

  • Both traders (Monkey & AI) start with $10,000 in simulated funds
  • 30-day real-time trading competition
  • Trading limited to S&P 500 stocks
  • Long positions only (no short selling or derivatives)
  • Live performance tracking and transaction history
  • AI uses GPT to analyze market data from Yahoo Finance & Alpha Vantage

The project puts Malkiel's theory to the test by pitting random stock picks against AI-powered analysis. All trades happen during market hours with real-time data.
