I’d like to get your opinions on a startup/side project idea. It’s something I’m building to scratch my own itch.
It would allow a user to take an idea and create an MVP to help measure viability and determine product market fit. An idea could be a software product, service or maybe a new feature to an existing product. The MVP could be as simple as a landing page to slightly more sophisticated ones such as concierge/wizard of oz style, interactive mockups and prototypes. A basic SaaS framework could also be available as an MVP to reduce the friction that it takes to launch a SaaS.
Each MVP could have basic analytics, heat maps, pricing A/B testing and mailing list support. Once an idea shows it has some traction the user could move onto more dedicated tools as needed.
This would be run as a SaaS but initial users would be serviced wiz of oz style. I would be the first user as I have dozens of ideas and want to see all of them have a shot instead of being stuck in my head.
Would any of you use this or pay for it? Alright, tear my idea apart. Please.
You should build your idea validation platform to test your idea validation platform ;)
But seriously this sounds cool, would be interested in this sort of product.
The movie Inception has come to mind. At this stage I'm starting with a simple lander to update subscribers then get more complicated as I go along.
I found some problem with landing pages. It's that in this case, people are very hard to subscribe if they don't see anything (I mean anything working). Maybe they are just tired to see and subscribe to so many landing pages nowadays :)))
I think it has to do with what you're using the landing page for. If you're using it to simply validate an idea, maybe 10 or 100 signups is enough an indicator for you to move onto the next step. It also depends on the market, how niche your idea is and how many eyes you have on the landing page. It's definitely an art not a science.
If you're beyond initial validation then the next steps would be to provide wireframes, mockups or prototypes. This should increase signups and move you along further.
As for landing pages have you tried conversational forms or surveys. Something that begins with a Get Started button instead of Sign Up. Once a user begins to answer questions they may be more inclined to give you their email. This also allows you to segment your users depending on how they answer the questions.
I believe the idea is pretty viable. Currently, we are working on our own MVP of SaaS boilerplate (www.saas-idea.com) - it will be accessible for testing very soon and we will able to prove or disprove our assumption.
Yo. If your output was a Rails app, I'd be a customer.
Hehe, who knows, maybe we will do the same for RoR too :) stay tuned :)))
Congrats on your progress so far. Your pricing seems a bit low to be honest. You may want to investigate on charging per user basis. That is, users of your customers product.
Hi,
thanks for your feedback. I just started playing with prices. I think it will be changed in the future as well as the whole business model.
