I'm to develop the best todo app. Hit me hard in the head. Also ideas.
I'm missing a next generation todo app. Something more helpful than a list of lists that needs too much micromanagement (a bit like Any.do Assistant, but better). I imagine something more clean looking than Todoist/Any.do, almost invisible, all with a big touch of gamification and intelligence. A powerful smart assistant that looks incredibly straightforward and clean.
Three main pillars:
- NodeJS to simplify the cross-platform part (so it would correctly work on Windows, Linux, Mac, Android, iOS...)
- Smart features like:
- Suggest specific birthday presents for you (as in eBay/Amazon etc. links), for friends/relatives to do it quickly and painlessly when the date is coming
- Detect a missed call and ask you if you want to be reminded to call back
- Always with an eye on your agenda to prevent over bookings or squeezes, let's you know when it's time to leave depending on traffic
- Help you remind to keep in touch with your most contacted people (rated "VIP"), and people you specifically want in that category. When it's been too much time, an easy reminder-click to "Yeah, let's send a message/call"/"Postpone" to that guy.
- Optional habits: things like "I ate healthy today" or "I went to the gym" or any other one you put in. Every time you accomplish one, click on that habit button and a little celebration shows on screen, winning you gamification points (like all other completed tasks and actions) that let you easily see how productive you are week by week and gives you satisfaction to keep going. Will have something more to stimulate when developing more the gamification aspect.
- The app will learn from your preferences, so if you usually skip, for example, the birthday present suggestions, it'll stop bothering you with it. You can always bring it back, but otherwise, you just don't have to worry configuring a thousand things. It'll do it for you for all things I can measure.
- There's a long list of smart, thoughtful features hidden under a clean interface that will make everyone's life much better without obsessing on the app.
- Privacy: any and all knowledge is lockdown in a ciphered database that can only be deciphered with your login, which no one but you has. All connections go through ciphered channels end to end.
- Free for everyone. Yes, free as in free. Will have to work on some ad partnership, as in sponsored suggestions or something like that. Must be unintrusive.
Can I develop this monster before I die? Well, not alone I don't think. So I'll start investing money for its development, so it has the quality it deserves, adding features, bug fixing and growing...
I opened this thread to pick up any and all ideas, regarding development, business plan, monetization (whatever happens I'd like to always have a full featured forever-free tier), the product itself or the plan itself. I think to develop it as an "open" MVP, with features growing according to their demand from the users.
Please share your thoughts.

Still, A few suggestions:
as your business model is = free = only make meaningful money if you have a bazillion users, or a few thousand highly sought after niche users... Your product needs to be 10x more sticky than the other 20 ToDo list Apps I used in the last years. I suggest to read the book "hooked" and check out the interview with the author here on IH and have UX of the product as the main dev driver.
I tend to start a ToDo list and it quickly becomes so bloated that i have to just start a blank new one from time to time. Then I switch to paper for a few weeks before having another attempt at a digital ToDo list. So you're right the current tools dont help me manage the tasks very Well. Or at least they allow me to mess up the whole Thing
having a list where I could put stuff which needs to be done by a VA could be another monitization
if the tool could force me to make decisions on some tasks it might help. Like decide if the task will actually ne done at all or if it can be archived
Well, I am just afraid it would try to do too much.
I'd think of it as a digital assistant only geared towards your productivity. We'd build a retarded assistant with all the foundation and then adding brick by brick with feedback making it sharper and more efficient.

The idea came from my own frustration with existing apps. When sharing the letdown communities I saw some informed criticism that aligned with mine.
And know I'm trying to get more info from reddit, indiehackers etc. (I never share my ideas with friends haha. Not usable data to me).
It's a good video, I don't like videos particularly, always need to speed them up. Some of his points reminded me of Eric Ries's book (lean startup), Seth Godin conferences and more or less the common techniques associated with MVP's and lean development. Your suggestion hits the right spot nevertheless.
