iOS INDIEHACKERS: how should I make this app?

I'd only learn how to code an app like this if you're planning on writing many more apps.

Learning everything is going to take a lot of time (even for a 'simple' app like this) so outsourcing will be a lot cheaper.

As an iOS developer of some years I can say that this app you want would be an awesome learning experience if you are looking to build.

Here are some of those thoughts/suggestions/observations:

-the airport, as determined by GPS

• could look for an external web api for this
• possibly use apple maps reverse gps position

-the time, shown in UTC

• easy peasy

-the tail registration of the aircraft, selected from a list

• if you know all of the aircraft numbers and that list changes infrequently then you could hard code it
• if the list changes frequently maybe check if the list is available via website or api

If you go the learning + building route I'd be happy to help you though it.

Did you talk to them about a budget and timeline?

If you build it (or have it built) is it your intellectual property or are you going to be the project manager for their mobile app? Whose devices will the app be deployed to?

I’ve built a bunch of enterprise mobile apps. Usually, they don’t let you keep the IP so get them to pay for development costs, or pay for a diy platform like AppSheet or PowerApps that you can prototype quickly.

If you have learn to do it yourself, roll it into a promotion where you get paid more for developing their mobile apps because once they see you solve this business problem, they’ll want you to do more.
