When people compare AI coding tools, the conversation usually goes straight to the model.

Which one writes better code?

But for someone who is just starting with AI coding, I think there are a few things that matter before model quality even becomes the main concern.

Can I actually use the tool without setting up an API key?

Do I need another monthly subscription?

Can I just open it and start building?

That's a big part of what we're trying to explore with Clixad.

Clixad is a cloud-based AI coding agent for the terminal. It can inspect a project, edit files, run commands, test changes and iterate on errors.

We're also experimenting with making access easier rather than simply competing on model benchmarks. Users get free credits, can earn more through advertiser-funded offers, and our five cheapest models are now free to use.

The models still cost money to run. We're just trying a different approach to how that cost gets covered.

For someone coding with AI eight hours a day, none of this may matter much. But for beginners, students, hobby developers and people who only vibe code occasionally, removing the setup and upfront cost might be more important than squeezing out another few percent of model performance.

Maybe the real competition in AI coding isn't only about who has the best model.

Maybe it's about who makes it easiest to actually start.
