If I'm writing content to catch Google searches, should I prefer putting that content on a landing page for my website, or as an blog post on my company's blog?
Obviously, some content doesn't make sense for a landing page ("Here are our newest features"). But isn't it better to bring users directly to my site when possible, rather than hoping they'll click from a blog post to my site?
Are there any guidelines for indie hackers (from what I understand, medium to large businesses sometimes have both a blog post AND a landing page for all of their content).
1/ I would use blog posts for inbound marketing/Google searches. (Note that if you have a blog hosted as blog.mysite.com, the blog is on your site even if on a different platform.) Always customize your blog to have the same look and feel as your homepage and have the same menu (Clicking on left corner/brand name goes to homepage, pricing link, sign-up link, etc. on the right).
2/ I would use landing pages for outbound campaigns, i.e. when I need to put a link in a cold e-mail to someone who is a prospective buyer.
Hey @smirolo, thanks for the advice. Do you have any reasoning behind your suggestions? Why can't you use landing pages for 1/, inbound marketing and Google searches?
I am not sure landing pages work well for Google searches. There is a big chance the content on your landing page is somewhat similar to the homepage. Google might present the homepage first with the landing page as a sub-link (like they do for pricing pages for example).
Landing pages work very well for referrals and as links into e-mail outreach. That's what I use them for.
Definitely you should experiment. Any marketing advice is time and product -sensitive.
Wait. If I do site.com/blog/, am I being penalized?
From what I can read about the debate blog.site.com vs site.com/blog, I think not. Both approaches are identical for SEO. I was mostly referring to having a blog hosted on Medium using Medium theme. That's a bit difficult to bring customers to your website from there.
You should do both... Plus you should also consider using Social Media.
Can you elaborate? Any reasoning why both is better?
Is it OK to duplicate the content almost entirely? Or should it be rewritten?
Using more marketing technics = more possibilities to get followers...
You should not duplicate content... You can easily make a cool landing page and a nice blog without duplicating content...
