Hi,
Before I post it somewhere (HN, PH etc)... I'd like to get some feedback on the app I've been working lately... Please tell me what you think :)
thanks, P.
Slate logo in your API docs needs to be changed with your logo.
Maybe not helpful, but backend is a synonym for bum here in the UK - the name would raise a chuckle over here.
Thanks :) English is my second language, so I'd not have guessed.... Bum-mer ;-) Can other English native speakers confirm (US/AU/CA etc) ? :)
"Managed Web Functions in Cloud" -- Urgh!?!?! This made me cringe a bit. Can you make it less buzzwordy? You could remove the "managed" given that's obvious - what's an unmanaged cloud function?
https://backendbox.io/how-it-works -- I'd use better screenshots here. These look blurred and unprofessional. Also the page just sort of stops...
"You create your lambda(s) in a web editor ..." -- I think the term lambda is safe, but very, very close to Lambda, an AWS trademark. Maybe consider creating your own funky trademark for your functions :-)
Finally I would offer some value-add propositions. For example why am I using you over AWS Lambda, who has regions all over the world, excellent support (at a price), an office with real architectures in my city (which is saying something, but I live in Brisbane, Australia), and I can upload my code to S3 instead of having to use their (your) built-in web editor.
Hopefully I've been constructive with this feedback.
Very constructive, thanks! I sort of agree with all you wrote and will try to address it. In terms of the value proposition. That is free now. Also, the time needed to set up a working bit of code is literally a minute. I believe it's simpler. Of course will provide more elaborate verbiage, use cases etc.
I can write a function, and with a few lines of code in a Serverless Framework config' file, have it deployed in minutes. I don't even touch the AWS console anymore. Not even for logs/statistics.
Experienced DevOps and SREs (like me) will need convincing.
Valid point. This is by no means a product to compete with AWS. Maybe the name is unfortunate.... These are more web-hooks actually.
I currently use cloud functions (firebase). Is your service a more constrained version of cloud functions?
Well, probably very much constrained at this point :)
