Looking for feedback on my new web app: Visual Analytics

http://visualanalyticsapp.com

I've been building this app for around 6 months (on and off) now and it is now at the point where I need to get feedback and see if people are interested in this sort of product. The app is designed to allow users to view their Google Analytics data in a more interactive and interesting way, primarily by using interactive visualizations and dashboards. It is aimed at the following people:

  1. People/businesses who don't know what statistics they should be looking at in Google Analytics, and would like some guidance

  2. People/businesses that are not particularly data savvy and would like a way to view the data that is not tables of numbers

  3. People/businesses who just want a quick summary of the key stats from their website without digging around numerous tables/filters

What do you think? What's missing? Would/will you use it?

As a data analyst on the business side, I strongly feel there is a need for better visualizations on Google Analytics. In fact, the business is constantly asking me to interpret the data on Google Analytics for them.

What's missing is that I don't fully see the value of your tool vs the regular Google Analytics dashboards. Now, what would be very powerful is if I can slice and dice Google Analytics data to be able to do all kinds of segmenting and filtering to get down to the nitty-gritty.

Your high-level dashboards "may be" useful for smaller businesses though but there are tons of solutions for those. And you can almost build something similar in the Google reports (unless I'm missing something?)

I think the product you are describing is different to what I am trying to build. A product that allows you to really slice and dice and apply lots of custom filters is a product for advanced users of Google Analytics like yourself. The problem is to build that, you basically have to entirely rebuild Google Analytics (which does allow you to filter and segment in just about every possible way), then add better charts. And there are a lot of software packages that have been set up to meet this demand - although they are usually very expensive.

The product I am trying to build is not really for data analysts, but is more for the people who keep asking you to interpret the data for them. It is deliberately selecting only the most important information (for most smaller websites/apps), and is presenting it in a (hopefully) simple way, with some basic options for filtering and cross referencing.

I haven't seen any products out there that are attempting to cater to more basic users - but if you know of any, please let me know!

Understood though just wanted to share my experience that those "basic users" that I work with would still want to drill down to the details. It's just that all these "basic" tools won't let them do it and they don't have the technical capability to go more advanced. If you can balance it out, that will be an incredibly powerful tool.

Thank you for the feedback - definitely something to consider as I keep building out more features.

    Sup Op, Sandorie here.

Funny story: I was doing a project very similar to yours not too long ago. Good to know that there are other people that see a problem with the way Metrics are being delivered.

    Now to the issue:

to see if people are interest in this project.

-Try to get some initial set of users by doing a comparatively untargeted launch, and then to observe which kind seem most enthusiastic, and seek out more like them.

*try posting it in some of the tech directories out there: Hacker news, Product Hunt, etc etc.

In terms of the page itself:

First thing when users come to your website:
give them what they are looking for ( the magic Moment).

Try to enclose in a simple and user friendly way, within the first page: what the COMPANY PURPOSE, whats the PROBLEM, and how your product is the SOLUTION.

In your page you have a bunch of useful information..but way too much ( and not in a user-friendly matter) People are going to feel like they are drowning and as a result are going to leave.

-Your first users should feel that signing up with you was one of the best choices they ever made. And you in turn should be racking your brains to think of new ways to delight them.

    Personally:
I would use your product, having said so:
You would need to show me, why do I need this and why should I choose you(product) ::In a clear and simple way::

This is something every customer is going to ask themselves before buying your product.

So far so good thought :).

    Keep working on it!

Thank you for the detailed response - much appreciated.

Based on what I am hearing hear today, I may need to get a designer/UI specialist onboard sooner than I was thinking.

You mention you were working on a similar project - why did you stop?

      1. 2

        No problem :).

I mean, there are a lot of websites for you to have as references.. but if it is your last card, then an UI designer would do the trick .

I put the project to the side to focus on another project that took off. Besides I realized it was going to take a good chunk of my time ( too much of it) to code what I wanted to do. There is clearly a market for what you are trying to do, it's all a matter of executing.

let me know if you need help with anything else

        Cheers!

I really like the user flow animations. I'd put that on the landing page by default to make people stay on your site.

Also, at first I thought the page belongs to an artist. I don't think you want to have that connotation.

Thanks for the feedback! I've had a few people say the user flow animations is their favorite, but you're the first to suggest moving it to the dashboard - it's definitely an interesting thought, help make that initial page more sticky.

As for the artist look, I think the icons/images I'm using are probably the biggest factor there. Unfortunately, I'm no graphic designer so I'm just relying on free icons/images, themes etc for now. I need to bring on a designer/UX specialist to help really make everything pop.

You should take inspirations by similar website which target your target customers like Bubble or ConvertKit. I think these customers are somewhat used to certain layouts and designs and it makes it easier for them to parse the site, if they can expect what content can be found at which place. Nonetheless, sticking out won't hurt you either.

Hey, you can try the design feedback service: https://www.basil.chat/
They might be helpful to get feedback on the app

I actually have a company working on kind of the same thing. Mimer Metrics (mimer.io). To help people look at the right data.

We found that we need a bit more sources. Added AdWords and within 2 weeks Facebook aswell.

Your visualisation looks great. Fun to see a "different" take on it now we have spend so much time on something similar :)

And you live in Copenhagen, Denmark?! We're based here too. What are the odds? Now we have to meet up :)

      1. 2

Hey! Just checked your website and saw this as well. Let’s definitely meet up - hit me up at brett.romero@outlook.com and we can work out the details!
