I'm amazed that there are no new real solution in the mindmapping area. If you're looking for a cross-platform, simple and beautiful software, well, not much choice... I used Freeplane/Freemind a lot in the past and it looks like the only competitor here, but damn, is it ugly... I personnally really enjoy mindnode on Mac, but it's not cross-platform unfortunately. But it's a breeze to use, with sensible keyboard shortcuts.

I use FreeMind on my laptop. It creates .mm files. On my Android I work with them using Z Mind app.
