Then we use MLab for Mongo. I don't remember our Redis provide off the top of my head. I think it is just heroku. Then we have workers on Heroku and Digital Ocean.

I'm interested in the details of your devops process. How you build, test and delivery your nodejs app? How you coordinate between backend and frontend? Did you deploy redis/kafka service yourself or use cloud service?
Hey, sorry for the delay. I didn't see your comment.
Basically we use Heroku for redis and Kafka. Mlab for Mongo. I'm sure we have plenty of other services but those are some of the main.
We use Docker. We have deployed on AWS and Digital Ocean. Currently we are on Azure. Basically we have Load Balance (app gateway for Azure) which also manages our SSL.
Then we use docker swarm to create two clusters in two regions with 3 managers each and point the LB at those clusters.
From there we attach workers to the cluster. Environment variables are on the Docker Swarm services which is how we connect to reds, kafka, etc.
To deploy, we build a docker image and use docker swarm to update everything :D

I built a project forum for the FreeCodeCamp group I was leading for a while. I learned a lot building it and the theory was that new people that were learning to code could post their projects and blog and get a little web presence going if they didn't yet have hosting skills. http://13.57.104.16 I ended up just letting the domain name expire and ssl, because no one used it. Again, this was a really great learning experience.
