People seem to like my app but don't check out new content. Now what?

I launched a small side-project https://www.guesshistory.com/ some months ago, which is basically GeoGuessr but for History. Some users really like it, praising the idea, sometimes playing all available series in a row. But despite the fact that new series are added monthly, not much of them come back.
I'm thinking that the concept is kind of fun to play one time but not good enough to engage that much with it, and that it should perhaps just be a part of a bigger quiz/educational website.
Any honest opinion ? What would you do with this ? Am I missing an obvious way to improve retention ?
By the way I was not planning to get $ from this, just trying to build a first decent side project for my resume and learn how to interact with users.
Thanks !

Some feedback from the perspective of a player: I would prefer if I didn't have to scroll to guess the place. I am using my desktop computer right now and I had to scroll down to find the place on Google maps. And then again to guess the year. And then again to press 'next'. The idea of the game seems fun and educational though.

Thank you for your feedback. Yeah I have trouble to make everything fit in a single screen.

Just had a quick look at the link you posted so not sure if you already do some or all of the things I’m going to suggest you consider.

Can you ask for email address a couple of questions into it (when people are playing and engaged - always allow them to skip) then email them a reminder when new content is available and/or if they haven’t been back for a few days, or weeks.

Also, perhaps make it easy to share on Twitter as people are playing to try and draw in more users?

Given it’s a quiz format (question / answer) you could probably ask other sorts of questions at appropriate times. This could lead you to the next project or feature or some way to monetise or even collaborate with someone else.

Care would need to be taken to ensure you’re not ruining the flow of the game when asking for an email or a tweet or any other questions.

Thank you for your suggestions. Good idea to try to promote the twitter account between questions, right now I'm doing it only at the end. I'll give it a shot.
