Questions about livecoding / streaming 24h startup
Hi all, lately I see more people live coding there projects or startup in 24h. I have seen some guides for setting up the screen and webcam etc.. Seems like quite some work.
- Is it a one time setup?
- Is this what designers / marketeers would do as well?
- Is the setup keeping you from streaming?
I am looking into creating a website to easy start streaming right from the browser without the need to setup everything. But I am not sure if this is something that people would use.
If you already know a service that makes it easy to start, that would be great, I am looking to also start live coding soon.
Hey @qvdev I'm using OBS Studio and Twitch to livestream the Sales Challenge Week but there are other tools like restream.io that let you broadcast to multiple platforms at once. Pretty sure there are a few pro grade alternatives to OBS but I've used it before.
Thanks for the reply, I would have thought it would be easier. Do you know if there any other platforms for not programmers so no Twitch but designers / marketeers live streaming?
As a platform for streaming? Facebook live and Youtube live are well suited for the non-technical crowd.
Setting up obs is pretty easy and there are like a million tutorials on how to do it for non-technical users (its popular with the gaming crowd too)
Setup is one time.
Looked some guides for setting up OBS but seems quite a hurdle to setup all of these things, such as installing applications and API keys. With all the remote meetings and pair programming websites this must be doable straight from a website.
You just install OBS takes a few minutes. The API keys you'd have to do on your service as well since everyone will want to stream to twitch, facebook or youtube and not a new service.
Do you mean that the streams should end-up to twitch/facebook/youtube? And not on the site itself. Is that what the user expect, a shareable link for twitch stream for example?
Myself would think all in one website is easier, but probably users want to build up a profile on Twitch
Yes, everyone would expect to be able to stream to at least one if not all 3 of those places.
There are companies that build versions of OBS with a lot of the stuff streamers want built in as well.

I spent 2 months doing a live streaming tech reporting service last year. I settled on Switcher Studio which worked for me as i have 3 iOS devices lying around which can record 720p. So i had multi camera views titles lighting and pro audio.
You can use your Facebook twitter audience to start. I recommend having multi views amd good "running commentary" otherwise it is like streaming cat videos. People want to follow your story and hear what you are doing.
I think the startup streaming idea is really interesting! maybe we need our own start-up stream URL destination. Eg startupstreamers.com. so indie hackers can look up other indie hackers. a space where we can embed our YT video and link to dev.urls
Love the idea! I’ve got some ideas to help it grow that involve Reddit.

The idea is that you just click on "START STREAMING" and you are all setup straight from the browser. Camera and screen/window/tab sharing. So no need to configure anything.
Of course some personalisation should be possible later on. But you will get a personal link that you can share.
Right but without an audience on your service no one will want to switch to it. How are you going to attract viewers?
