Show IH: I built Normia - a platform where people vote on what should be the norm
Ever had that moment where you think "why isn't this already a thing?" - like when you try to cancel a subscription and get stuck in a maze of dark patterns, or when a job posting hides the salary until the third interview.
I kept having that frustration, so I built Normia - a platform where people propose common-sense standards, vote on them, and track where they already exist in the real world.
What it does
People propose standards they want to see everywhere. Others vote. When a standard gets implemented somewhere (a city ordinance, a company policy, a national law), we track it - so advocates everywhere have proof it works and a template to follow.
Some standards people are voting on:
- Job postings must include salary range - because your time matters
- Subscriptions must be as easy to cancel as to sign up - looking at you, gym memberships
- Healthcare providers must give binding cost estimates - no more surprise bills
- 37-hour work week as standard - because 40 was arbitrary anyway
The stack (for the curious)
Built with Next.js, uses AI (Claude) as a research assistant to gather policy examples - but the ideas and votes are all human.
