Side Project Domains

What's up Indie Hackers!

Hoping to get some advice regarding domains. I'm finally started to execute on my side projects and I had planned to purchase a domain that will hold all my side project information.

Will be a website with all my work - like a portfolio but I'm not going to use my name because I haven't found a domain that I'm happy with so I've opted for another name. I was going to run everything off that domain at MVP stage (e.g <sideproject.mydomain.com>

However the '.com' of that domain is taken but the '.io' is available. As it's purely supposed to be a website for displaying my side projects, is it a big deal or could it cause me more hassle down the lane?
