Have been running www.ga-insights.com as a bootstrapped side-project for 3+ years, it has $6k+ in MRR and $220k in overall sales.
We've had our ups and downs in terms of product success, but I'd say it's a fairly stable and value-adding product - and we have a good amount of customers and a loyal customer base.
The thing is - we DONT get that much traffic.
My current thought is that we can improve our product features and funnel all we want, but without some heavier traffic to the site, it probably won't result in much more growth.
Things we have previously, and unsuccessfully tried:
Paid advertising. This didn't work because our funnel sucked when we tried to pull it off, and also we have a requirement for users to have Slack or MsTeams to get value - which is throwing away money when it's paid for traffic
SEO. We tried some blog traffic, but it's SUPER competitive to rank in our space, and didn't really pay off.
Growth hacking. I am in the process of launching www.weld.ai as a pure lead magnet. It's a free supermetrics alternative, and 100% free. We'll use those leads to push them toward GAI. However - this requires a bit more refinement to be ready and is a bit of a gamble.
Shopify connector. Trying to get listed on the Shopify store to increase traffic, but we haven't been approved yet, and I'm a little skeptical about how much traffic it will in fact generate.
So, it's the end of the year and we have some budget available to have another go at marketing, so we get more growth for next year.
What would you try? SEO and Paid seem like they don't really work for us - where would be most likely to see a positive ROI on our $ spent?
Would love to hear some tips or techniques I perhaps haven't considered.
What paid traffic did you use? There are different ways of targeting that might make it smoother for people that have slack/ms teams
And for SEO, what have you been trying? The most important part of SEO is actually link building. So I'd be curious to see what you've done to try that.
