The infrastructure trap killed 3 months of my SaaS. Here's the production-ready Flask setup I wish existed.
I'm going to be honest about something most indie hackers don't talk about.
I started building my SaaS in January. By March, I had zero features. Not because I was lazy — I was coding 10+ hours a day.
I was stuck in infrastructure hell.
Week 1: JWT authentication. Tutorials everywhere, but none of them covered refresh tokens, httpOnly cookies, or what happens when your token works locally and breaks in production. Spent 5 days on this alone.
Week 2: OAuth. Google login took 2 days. GitHub login took another 2. Then I realized both broke when I deployed because my callback URLs were wrong and the error messages told me nothing useful.
Week 3: Stripe. The checkout worked in test mode. Then I switched to live mode and webhooks stopped firing. Turns out request.get_json() breaks Stripe's signature verification — you need request.data (raw bytes). That one bug cost me 8 hours.
Week 4: CORS. Everything worked on localhost. Deployed to production, every API call returned a CORS error. Wildcard origins don't work when you're sending credentials. Another 3 days gone.
Week 5: I looked at my codebase and realized I hadn't written a single line of my actual product.
That's the infrastructure trap. You feel productive because you're coding every day. But you're building the foundation for the fourth time, not your product.
Here's what I learned:

Most Flask tutorials are dangerously incomplete. They show you the happy path. They don't show you what breaks in production, what errors you'll actually see, or how to debug them.

The "build everything from scratch" mentality costs more than it teaches. Yes, you learn by building auth yourself. But if your goal is to ship a product and validate an idea, spending 5 weeks on plumbing is the wrong trade.

The real cost isn't time — it's momentum. By week 5, the excitement about my idea was gone. I was burned out on infrastructure. That's when most solo founders quit.
So I documented everything. Every error, every fix, every production pattern. Then I turned it into a complete boilerplate.
