The discovery problem is real, and the numbers are worse than most people assume. We built an SEO auditing tool — free scan of up to 2,000 pages, 100+ ranking factors, runs in 30 seconds, no signup needed. The tool works. But we have a DA of 3, ten referring domains that are all scrapers, and about four visits per month.
The task-versus-category filtering Rida mentioned is the right instinct. When I need a tool, I search for the task — "check why my pages are not indexed" — not the category — "SEO tools." Most directories organise by category, which means I am browsing the same results the first page of Google already gave me.
The deeper issue: directories solve discovery for people who are browsing. They do not solve it for people who are Googling a specific problem and never think to visit a directory. Those people find whatever ranks, which right now is Ahrefs and Semrush, not us.

This hits close to home. I run paid ads across a few platforms and every week there's a new "AI tool" claiming to fix it. What's actually worked for me is asking the maker one blunt question before trying anything: what specific decision does this replace, not just "assist with". Directories that let me filter by task instead of by category (like yours seems to) are way more useful than another top-10 listicle. Bookmarked, will try it next time I'm evaluating something.
