The journey of managing a 60% SEO traffic drop on Popupsmart

The journey of managing a 60% SEO traffic drop on Popupsmart.com is a challenging one.

But we didn't back down.

We took steps, made changes, and learned a lot.

Here's what we did to bounce back ๐Ÿงต

Remember when we shared our journey of boosting traffic from 10k to 200k at
Well, 8 months later, Google rolled out the 'Helpful Content Update', and our SEO traffic took a 60% hit. And then, the March update hit. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ We're navigating these changes and learning as we go.

One thing we learned? Google isn't your friend. ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ

The real winners of this update were platforms like Reddit, LinkedIn Pulse, etc. If your content isn't focused on a specific expertise, Google doesn't see it as helpful.

Even though our content was as good as the experts on topics we're not experts in, Google pushed us back to 2-3 pages. ๐Ÿ˜ž

The main reason? The content we produced in different expertise. Topical authority is super important after the update.

We've been working hard to recover from the traffic drop.

We've changed our link structure, developed free tools, created a forum community, shifted from listicles to how-to guides, and switched our CMS to Webflow. ๐Ÿ”„
